It is only mid February, but the hardcore are already out racing some big events.
- Gary Robbins put in a solid performance at the Orcas 50km Ultra this past weekend.
- Jen Segger is ski racing down in Colorado competing in a 24 hour ‘rondo’
- Chris Koch and Jim Mandelli are down in South America racing with Team Spirit in the Pategonia Expedition Race. Lina Augaitis is also competing with Team Buff.
- And Dave Norona is ripping it up on the sled in the Chilcotins.
Meanwhile, I spent the day celebrating my 38th by eating about 5000 calories… although I did get a good workout in at the gym (hot tub)… Living the dream… ;0)

How great would it be to be mountain biking in California right now? Lina Augaitis is on the kind of road trip that every adventure seeker dreams about. The kind of trip where you and your best buds load up your vehicle with all your toys and head to a new playground every day.
Looking at this photo of Lina (stylishly wearing the MOMAR bike jersey) makes me a bit envious especially with the cold and crappy weather we’ve been having here in BC. What a great feeling she must have looking down into the valley below and ready for gravity to do its thing.
In the coming days, Lina will be entering a six day stage race on the Islands of Guatalope. Check out her blog for more details and regular reports.
Good luck Lina!!!

The contrast between Paris and Nicole’s version of the Simple Life and the one that local adventure racer Lina Augaitis experienced last week could not be more different. Or could it? In the reality TV version, Paris and Nicole had nothing but the basics (see photo above) and by the sounds of Lina’s adventures the same was true for her. In Lina’s blog post titled “The Simple Life” she wrote:
….ahhh this is the life…but how can we be so pleasantly content living with relatively nothing, among the dirt, the grass, the mountains, with no houses, no showers, no tv, no couch, no bed, no plate, just a spoon we all have to share?….EASY. One glance around, one look up and down and side to side tells me how I know this simple life is the ultimate…
Me personally, I think that’s a bit too simple, but to each their own… I’ve made it a policy in life to NEVER share a spoon ;0). Take the time to head over to and read Lina’s post today for some great photos and her stories. I’m still trying to figure out the whole Acroyoga / Slackline things she has going on but I’m going to Cirque de Soliel next Satuday so maybe I’ll understand it more after that.
