RECORD SELL OUT, WEEKEND OF RACING
AND ANOTHER KILLER PARTY...

FINAL RESULTS (pdf)               PHOTOS FROM THE RACE

PHOTOS BY TONY AUSTIN

Race morning looking onto Comox Lake. It was another beautiful day for the MOMAR! What an auspicious start to the day.

Team Helly Hansen (Denis Fontaine & Justin Mark) start out strong for the opening stage of the MOMAR.

Racers head south on the choppy waters of Comox Lake for the first of two kayak stages. This one was a mere 8km.

Out of the water and onto the mud flats and the start of the Trek Stage. Racers had to travel between 8-10km in order to find 8 checkpoints. Team 24 Hours had the fastest trek time.

Racing with Carey Sather, first time MOMAR racer, Mary Mark, 57, skillfully hops the barbwire. They finished in a very respectable 6:26:55!

Frontrunners' Normon Thibault chases down Team Luposlipophobia's Chris Koch and Doug Doyle. Thibault would go on to capture the solo male title and place second overall.

Team 24 Hours (Andrew Clarke and Ryan Ervin) dig in with the SRS Shark wing blade. They had a solid paddle, an exceptional trek, a fast mountain bike stage and went on to win the MOMAR--the first team to capture the overall title!

Crab walking with a bug in your mouth??? That's what you can expect at MOMAR's Mystery Challenge! One half of the The Whole Fam Damily, Rebecca Wood and Marguerite Masson, raced with Kyle Wood and Stan Wood as a way to celebrate Marguerite and Stan turning 50 this year. Finishing time 6:03:48--one fit family!

Part 3 of the Mystery Challenge, Team SOL balances their way across a creek filled with snakes and rats... Coming into this race Team SOL had won their category in the past four MOMAR.

Team Frontrunners/Helly Hansen's Stefan Jakobsen and Sean Lunny take on Part 4 of the Mystery Challenge. The task... put your forehead on the end of the pole and spin around 5 times and then balance an egg on spoon while going around a slalom course. Not so easy when it's half way into the race and you just finished kayaking and walking like a crab!

The Debt-Busters (Doug Lee & Cornell Pidruchney) try to get steady...

There's always lots of spirit at the MOMAR and The Royal Tennen-Bums (Catherine Hamilton, Jason Sandquist, Dodie Cox, & Alison Keple) had the most!

"This Ain' No Picnic" also had some great spirit!

I can guarantee that Canadian adventure racing legend, Jim Mandelli (left) has never had to guess the weight of a pumpkin during a race. Mandelli raced with Brent Chan, sea2summit's Dean Payne, and Raid the North's Geoff Langford.

The Porn Stars Joanna Lord (I wonder if she's related to Tracy?) gives the thumbs up during the final 20km mountain bike leg.

Here a shot of just a few of the 70 volunteers that helped make the MOMAR another great success!

Ren'n'Limpy battles it out with The Compadres for the final punch.

The Compadres (Chris Daradics, Glenowyn Carlson, Marinka Daradics, & Chris Scott) battle through another MOMAR with smiles and a great time.

Foot,Loose,Fancy,&Free with the biggest cheering squad of the day.

... AND NOW ON TO THE AFTER-PARTY...
The MOMAR after-party festivities have now become as big a part of the weekend as the race itself! Over 350 racers, volunteers, family and friends attended the banquet (some just come for the party... ). (Photos by Bryan Tasaka)

The Beez Neez (Greg Willis and Lorraine Russell) take home the Phillips Brewing Co. "Team in Most Need of a Beer" award for the most time on the course (ranked).

Here's a shot of the top two coed teams posing with CARA president Simon Donato. It was a close and exciting battle between the Snot Sisters and Booger Brothers and Team Luposlipophobia for the top prize of free entry to the Canadian National Championships in Timmons, ON, next May. It was the SSBB edging out Lupo by 5 minutes.

The Irish band Town Pants played three great sets to get the dance floor shakin' all night long.

The Pink Flamingos (middle, Jeannie Posey & Tanya Sutcliffe) celebrate with their friends after completing first MOMAR with a time of 6 hours. Tanya was a long time volunteer who FINALLY made the switch to racer.

A battle of the Race Directors.... Here I am CRUSHING Raid the North's Geoff Langford because he was drinking Lucky...

THIS IS WHAT THE MOMAR IS ALL ABOUT!

Be sure to mark September 30th, 2006, on your calendar because you don't want to miss the 7th annual party... I mean race!

Thanks for coming out
