General Race Info:
The Inside Scoop from the Race Director

Aug 10/08 - TRAINING CLINICS: A reminder that the final round of MOMAR Training Clinics are coming up. There are MOMAR 101 clinics in Victoria, Vancouver, and Duncan. Sean Lunny is offering his MOMAR 205 mountain biking clinic next weekend. AND Todd Nowack has just added another MOMAR 301 - Advanced Navigation clinic on Sept 14th. Please sign up early as the clinics have been selling out on a regular basis. Go to the Clinic Page for all the details and to register.

Aug 10/08 - REGISTRATION STATUS: Another 25 racers have signed up bringing the total up to 145. Racers are traveling from all over North America for this one including, Alberta, Yukon, Washington State, Montana, Minnesota, Arizona, and Australia! With only 250 spots available, we could see this race sell out again for the fifth year in a row.

July 30/08 - REGISTRATION FILLING UP QUICK: With just under two months to go before the final MOMAR of season, over 120 people have already registered. At this pace, we could be in for an early sell out. Be sure to sign up soon to avoid beinging put on the wait list.

July 30/08 - NEW COURSE ROUTE FOR '08 - Yes, it is true. A new course is being designed for Cumberland. For those of you that have been getting a little bored of the old course, the proposed course route will take you into new areas never touched by the MOMAR. There is even the possibility of a SHORT course option being added. I hope to know by mid August.

Event Description

Our series wraps up in the Comox Lake area (Village of Cumberland). This is an adventure racer's dream destination as it is filled with world-class single-track trails. Comox Lake itself is an excellent venue for a paddling and staging area.

This venue has plenty of interesting history and we hope to add to that history as we stage our final race of the year here in the beautiful Comox Valley. The Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race at Comox Lake will feature ~40 km of kayaking, mountain biking, trail running, and mystery events. It will be a test for both the seasoned race pro and the dedicated novice.

Make sure you plan on staying the Saturday night as this race features a 'not-to-be-missed' dinner and after party.

Date Saturday, September 27, 2008
Start Time9am
LocationCumberland / Courtenay, BC, Vancouver Island
Distance & Course Description

Total Course Distance ~45km
- Kayaking: 10km
- Trekking/Orienteering (self-navigation): 8-10km
- Mountain Biking: 25km (amazing single-track riding at an intermediate level (no drops), mostly flagged;

The self-navigation sections of the race can be done without a compass since the map is very accurate and you just have to follow the trails. A compass does come in handy when you get lost or if you want to take a shortcut through the bush. Overall, the navigation sections are considered relatively straightforward. We do recommend that you take the MOMAR 101 Clinic if you don't have a good sense of direction.

For ferry information visit www.bcferries.com or call 1-888-223-3779. The ferries may be busy this weekend so you might want to make reservations (only $17 per vehicle).

Accommodations

Mt. Washington - Since the post-race dinner and awards banquet will be held up at Mt. Washington, we highly recommend that all out-of-town racers try to book accommodations on the mountain for Saturday night. Condos are very inexpensive at this time of the year and there are many places that sleep 6-8 people and rent for $50-100 per night, if you book early. It's a beautiful place to spend the weekend. Go to www.mtwashington.ca to make a reservation.

We also recommend that racers consider staying at the Riding Fool Hostel in Cumberland for Friday night since that is where Friday night registration will be and it's minutes away from the race start/finish line. The Riding Fool Hostel is right above Dodge City Cycles where you can conveniently get your bike checked or pick up any last minute race supplies.

Kayak Rentals It is highly recommended that you reserve your kayak as soon as possible as they book very quickly.
