FAQs:
How
long will it take?
The course will take approximately 4-5 hours. Often the
enthusiasm of participants means that the course will go on longer to ensure you’ve
had all your questions answered and that you’re comfortable with the navigation.
Please plan to stay for the entire time, even if we run overtime.
How
should I dress and what should I bring?
You should be prepared for any
type of weather, and we will be working outside the whole time. Bring some sturdy
hiking shoes or adventure race specific footwear (trail runners). Bring a small
pack, such as a camelback for carrying water, a snack and extra clothes if the
weather is cool. Please bring a compass, pencil and whistle with you. Basically,
if it’s in the MOMAR gear list you should have it with you, except paddling gear
of course.
What
about a compass?
You should have a base-plate style orienteering compass
that has a declination adjustment screw on it, such as the Suunto M3. A declination
adjustable sighting-compass (has a flip-up lid with a sighting mirror) is fine,
but more than what is needed. Compasses without declination adjustment are not
recommended.
